INTRODUCING THE 2021 PANTONE COLOURS OF YEAR

Pantone is a world leader in setting colour standards and references across different industries, particularly the interior design and fashion industries.  Each Pantone reference number matches a particular colour swatch – this helps to keep colours consistent, wherever they’re used. Every year, Pantone chooses a colour of the year.

This year, there are two, complementary Pantone colours: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.

PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, are two colours that blend brilliantly, encapsulating the idea that independent elements combine to become more than the sum of their parts and bring out the best in each other.

This is the mood of the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2021 – a combination of rock-solid outlook and optimistic warmth, transmitting strength and positivity.

What Do These Colours Transmit?

PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is a bright, warm, happy yellow that’s imbued with the energy of the sun, generating vivacity and effervescence.

PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray evokes eternal sensations of solidity and reliability that provide a firm foundation. It’s the colour of the pebbles on the beach, natural elements whose eroded appearance reveals the ability to withstand the examination of time. In this way, Ultimate Gray inspires quiet security, tranquility and conveys feelings of composure, stability and resilience.

“The union of everlasting Ultimate Grey with vibrant yellow of Illuminating expresses a message of positivity and strength. This combination of colours, practical and solid while at the same time warm and optimistic, offers us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and comforted, it’s an essential part of the human soul.” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute

The combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 reinforces the spirit, highlighting our need to be seen, to have visibility, to be recognised and for our voices to be heard.

This combination of colours sparks links with ideas, innovation and intuition as well as a respect for wisdom, experience and intelligence. From this combination flows a feeling of regeneration, projecting us into new ways of thinking.
